"Forsooth, My Lovely", it's Auditions!

Gaslight Theater Announces auditions for "Forsooth, My Lovely" by David Belke, directed by Mike Clements.

Auditions are at Hallowell City Hall Auditorium:

  • Sunday, July 23rd at 4:00 pm and
  • Monday July 24th at 6:00 pm.

Casting is for 4 men and 2 women.

Show dates are October 27th through 29th and November 3rd through 5th.

About the Play

Hard boiled detective Birnam Wood finds himself drawn into a whirlwind of crime, blackmail and murder when he is hired to unravel a scandal involving a Venetian merchant's daughter, Scottish witches, star-crossed lovers and a host of Bardish characters in this riotous mash-up of film noir mystery and the incomplete works of William Shakespeare.


All these characters are played by the six-person cast.

  • BIRNAM WOOD: A private detective
  • TRINCULO: Baptista’s jester (The Tempest)
  • KATHERINE “KATE” MINOLA: Baptista’s eldest daughter (The Taming of the Shrew)
  • SIR OLIVER de BOIS: Baptista’s advisor and castellan (As You Like It)
  • BAPTISTA MINOLA: Wood’s client, a merchant of Padua (The Taming of the Shrew)
  • BIANCA MINOLA: Baptista’s youngest daughter (The Taming of the Shrew)
  • EMILIA: Owner of the Green Eyed Monster tavern, former maid with a past (Othello)
  • PROTEUS: A down on his luck gentleman of Verona (Two Gentlemen of Verona)
  • ROMEO MONTAGUE: An eager would-be assistant from Verona (Romeo and Juliet)
  • BORACHIO: A villainous henchman (Much Ado About Nothing)
  • MALVOLIO: Baptista’s steward (Twelfth Night)
  • DOGBERRY: The captain of the local watch, a cop (Much Ado About Nothing)
  • WITCH 1: A prophetic crone (Macbeth)
  • WITCH 2: Another prophetic crone (Macbeth)
  • CONRADE: Another henchman (Much Ado About Nothing)
  • COSTARD: Chairman of the Paduan Fools’ Guild (Love’s Labours Lost)
  • TOUCHSTONE: A professional fool (As You Like It)
  • FESTE: Another professional fool (Twelfth Night)
  • FOOL: Yet another professional fool (King Lear)
  • TITANIA: An elven queen (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
  • OBERON: An elven king (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
  • PETRUCHIO: Katherine’s husband to be (The Taming of the Shrew)
