| Bells are Ringing Book and Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green Directed by Deborah Howard
|
The classic Broadway musical, with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and lyrics by Jule Styne. Ella, the most valuable employee of Susanswerphone, lives vicariously through the lives of her answering service's clients — until she falls in love with playwright Jeff Moss, who believes that only Ella's anonymous voice can break through his writer's block. Toss in an illegal bookmaking operation, the police, and some major misunderstandings, and you've got a recipe for perfect summer entertainment. The Jule Styne score features such favorites as "Just in Time" and "The Party's Over." Auditions! March 14 at 4:00 p.m., March 15 at 6:30 p.m., and March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Hallowell City Hall. We are casting 9 men and 7 women; prepare a song from your own sheet music, or come prepared to sing from a selection of songs we will have available. Directed by Deborah Howard, music direction by Brad Howard; for more information, call 512-2841. |

| Born Yesterday
|
Another classic comedy, this one by Garson Kanin (and the basis for two film versions). Corrupt tycoon Harry Brock hires reporter Paul Verrall to give Brock's girlfriend, showgirl Billie Dawn, lessons in the ways of Washington, DC. Billie learns those lessons (and more) better than anyone bargained for. Born Yesterday is the perfect break from election news at the height of the campaign season. |

by Sam and Bella Spewack |
Sam and Bella Spewack wrote this gleefully wicked Christmas comedy, set in French Guiana. Three convicted prisoners on work-release help the Ducotel family with their struggling general store, which is failing because Felix Ducotel, the manager, can't stand to ask people to pay him. When his cousin Henri, the store's owner, arrives to check up on Felix, the three convicts decide to give the Ducotels a merry Christmas by any means necessary. |
